At Level One(1), candidates cover a wide range of individual and integrated skills activities that promote speaking and listening, reading and writing. Course content is neatly structured so that the learner has coverage at a working pace to suit their needs. An adult classified at this level can:

  • Understand short straightforward texts of varying length on a variety of topics accurately and independently;
  • Obtain information from different sources.

Course is City and Guilds accredited,, plus is suitable for young and mature adults who need to gain or brush up on essential skills of reading, writing, and communication. 

Qualification Equivalence: Levels 6-8 on the national curriculum (GCSE English A-C grades). 

The course is therefore ideal for post 16 school-leavers, who are considering a re-take of GCSE English.  For young and mature adults, the course is an opportunity to build on essential skills of reading, writing and communication and allows you to gain a nationally recognised vocational qualification that is equivalent to national curriculum levels 6-8. Acceptance onto the course at this level will depend on whether the results of students’ diagnostic assessment convey that he or she can demonstrate skills of the Adult Literacy Core Curriculum, at respective levels.

What you will cover:

5 comprehensive units consisting of activities aimed at developing skills in the areas of speaking & listening, reading and writing. Unit titles and sub-topics relate to everyday transactions and activities, thus making learning interesting and ensuring that learners can relate to the course content.

Entry Requirements:  

Willingness to learn and an open mind.  If you have covered any level or obtained a unit certificate of this course, you will be expected to provide evidence of this by bringing your certificate along to your interview.  Students who apply for level 1 will be assessed to determine whether they have applied for the right level.

 On-going Assessments: 

Students will receive regular assessments and feedback to sustain their development on the course.  Formative or on-going assessments will be carried out by way of One-to-One or Group Tutorials, Question and Answer, Class Activities, Project Work and many other stimulating methods.

End-Of-Course Assessment:

Students' portfolios count toward assessments. You will be made to sit an online examination on successful completion of the course.

Award:

LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE IN ADULT LITERACY.
